Windows Phone 7.5 Launches Today In Singapore

28 September 2011, Singapore – One year after the launch of Windows Phone 7, Windows Phone 7.5, previously codenamed Mango, was officially launched today with more than 500 new features and enhancements.

The upgraded operating system will be available in Singapore in the coming weeks on HTC Radar and Samsung OMNIA W which will be available at SingTel, M1 and StarHub as well as mobile retail outlets.

Windows Phone 7 customers will be able to upgrade to 7.5 for free beginning today. It will be broadly available to most existing customers by end October.

Connecting with People is the key idea behind the feature improvements and here’s a flavour of some of the features.

  • Tighter social network integration
  • People Feature – one touch access to Windows Live, Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn
  • Groups – group your favourites and pin them to the Start screen to get live updates or text, email and I’m them all at once.
  • Built in Facebook chat, Messenger, Check-Ins and Photo Tagging
  • Connect up to five Wifi-enabled devices to the web using Windows Phone data connection (for new Windows Phone devices only, existing Windows Phone devices will get the update at a later date)
  • Internet Explorer 9 included in the new update with hardware acceleration
  • Apps on Start screen showcases live updates and allow you to be updated
  • Search function is connected to apps
  • SkyDrive – Windows Live cloud based storage to share and edit Microsoft Office documents and files, photos and videos, allowing for true mobility in collaboration
  • Office Hub for on-the-go productivity – create and edit documents through mobile versions of Microsoft Office Excel, Word and PowerPoint and One Note for taking notes
  • Windows Live Sky Drive’s 25GB of free storage.

  • New features for Outlook Mobile and Office Mobile
  • Microsoft Lync – new feature that allows be unified communication among users
  • Pin Outlook folders on Start screen
  • “Server search” capabilities for email searches
  • Built-In Office 365 auto discovery and auto provisioning capabilities for local subscribers to the cloud-based service.
  • Exchange ActiveSync (EAS) allows seamless email and productivity experience with capabilities to apply corporate management and security policies
  • Other security features include support for Information Rights Management (IRM), Malware-protected Explorer 9 Mobile and secure data transmission through SSL Encryption 128/256 Bit
  • Apps are integral for any smartphone user. There are over 30,000 apps on Marketplace and more than 750 local apps.
