19 July 2011, Singapore – Hanna (Saoirse Ronan) is a bright and agile 16 year old girl, raised and trained to be the best assassin by her ex-CIA agent father, Erik (Eric Bana), in the wilds of North Finland. The widowed father taught Hanna the skills to hunt and combat, tutored her with the knowledge from encyclopedia and fairytale books so she can become an elite assassin. All this effort is to make sure Hanna can settle her family’s unfinished business with CIA agent, Marissa (Cate Blanchett).
The movie is like “La Femme Nikita” meets Julia Roberts’ “Eat Pray Love”, where Hanna is a capable assassin travelling alone to Morocco, Spain & Germany to learn about the world to “find” her true self and killing her enemy. Director Joe Wright who also directed Pride & Prejudice (2005), brings an artistic flavour to the whole movie with its visually stimulating scene setups and filming techniques. The story may be somewhat predictable and gory but the natural beauty of Saoirse Ronan and the near perfect art directions by director Joe Wright makes this movie ticket worth every penny of it.
I would rate this movie 4 out of 5 though some scenes maybe tad bit too violent.
