4 May 2011, Singapore – Indonesia’s national carrier, Garuda Indonesia is launching a new daily service from Singapore to Makassar from 1 June 2011. Makassar will be the airline’s third domestic hub, after Jakarta and Bali and also Garuda Indonesia’s gateway to East Indonesia.
2011 has been declared Visit Makassar year and the city has been busy adding new events and festivals to its attractions. It is the largest city on Sulawesi Island and was the main harbour and trade centre in pre-colonial Indonesia. It’s located right in the centre of the archipelago with Fort Rotterdam as its main attraction. Travellers flying to Makassar can expect to enjoy tasty local specialities such as the famous Coto Makassar beef soup, relaxing on the white sands of Tanjung Bira beach and soaking in the tranquil sceneries of Bambapuang Mountain.
Garuda Indonesia will operate this new route initially using the Boeing 737-500 aircraft which can accommodate 12 passengers in Executive Class and 84 in Economy Class. Passengers will have the opportunity to enjoy the airline’s unique service concept known as the ‘Garuda Indonesia Experience’ which combines warm Indonesian hospitality with quality service that emphasizes on safety and comfort.
The new flight will operate daily from Changi Airport Terminal 3, departing at 6.50pm and arriving in Makassar at 10.00pm local time. The return service will leave Sultan Hasanuddin International Airport in Makassar at 3.00pm and arrive in Singapore at 5.50pm.
