The Scotch Malt Whisky Society (SMWS) has reopened its doors in Singapore with La Maison du Whisky (LMDW) as its exclusive Singapore representative. It will be part of a worldwide network of 26 outlet societies in countries including Scotland, Taiwan and Hong Kong amongst others. SMWS was founded by Pip Hills in 1983 to revitalise the Scotch Whisky industry by crafting malts with greater character, more cask influence and a wider range of flavours. 40 years later, SMWS is cherished by whisky enthusiasts worldwide as the original producer of single-cask, limited edition, cask strength Scotch whisky.
The distilleries from which each whisky originates are not disclosed on the SMWS bottles. Instead, they are given unconventional bottle names and idiosyncratic tasting notes to divert attention away from preconceived notions based on the distillery’s ownership. Emphasis is on the quality of the liquid inside, which is of paramount importance. SMWS has collaborated with over 156 distilleries and employed various cask types and maturation techniques.
SMWS Singapore will offer a range of the society’s quality whiskies by the glass at partner bars, including 67 Pall Mall, LMDW, The Swan Song, The Warehouse Hotel, Tippling Club, WatchBox Singapore and Writers Bar.
SMWS Singapore members may also purchase the entire bottle on www.smwssg.com. A one-year regular membership is priced at S$175. The one-year Regular Membership with Bottle tier costs S$250. The highest tier is the Exclusive Priority Membership priced at S$350 for a year.
