AirAsia Extends Association with ASEAN Basketball League with The Philippine Patriots

16 December 2010, Manila (Press Release) – AIRASIA, Malaysia’s low-cost carrier and innovator in sports sponsorship and tourism in ASEAN, will extend its association with the ASEAN Basketball League (ABL) by sponsoring the 2009-2010 Grand Finals Champions, Philippine Patriots.  This was announced today during the announcement of AirAsia’s setting up of a budget airline in the Philippines.

The exclusive 3 year deal will see Philippine Patriots provide full branding rights to AIRASIA. These rights also include the use of player images and player appearances at AIRASIA events across ASEAN.

AIRASIA plans to use these images for community-driven events, both on and off season throughout the tenure of the partnership.

Announcing the partnership, AIRASIA Group CEO Tony Fernandes said the association with ASEAN’s most successful basketball team will raise AIRASIA’s brand awareness in the Philippines and increase our brand equity across ASEAN.

“Basketball is a common denominator and unifier of people across ASEAN. Our partnership with the Patriots provide us with the the opportunity to share in our guests’ passion and communicate our brand messages in meaningful but less intrusive way. It will also provided us with a platform to connect and build a closer relationship with our guests in places and situations which they are most comfortable in.

Antonio “Tony Boy” Cojuangco, co-owner of the Philippine Patriots said the team is proud to partner with a brand of AIRASIA’s stature and to have their name adorn our jerseys and playing arena.

“AIRASIA’s involvement will also enable us to continue to improve our training methods, develop grass root programs that will help us to maintain our position as the most successful basketball team in the ASEAN Basketball League.”
