From 2 to 14 March 2020, Mikuni’s Chef Keisuke Uno presents a bento set for lunch to celebrate Hina Matsuri for the eighth year. Hina Matsuri Doll festival is traditionally celebrated in Japan on 3 March where families wish their daughters good health and happiness in life.
The bento menu is available for lunch from noon to 2.30 pm at S$138++ per adult.
Start off with live Japanese Oyster from Mie prefecture topped with dashi foam. The Asari Clam soup was so comforting and sweet!
Presented in the bento box are six items. Enjoy fresh sashimi of Otoro, Tai and Kampachi from Japan with freshly grated wasabi. The Stanbroke Wagyu Tenderloin from the Stanbroke company which combines the Japanese Wagyu with the supreme quality of Australian beef is one of the star dishes. It is slow-cooked at 54°C in Mikuni’s housemade teriyaki sauce of chicken, sake and mirin from Kyushu.
The Tempura Prawn Yuba, Sweet Potato, Shishitou is excellent. I love the sweet potato. Then there is the braised Takenoko (simmered bamboo shoots), Wakame (seaweed), Yuba (Kyoto-style curdled soymilk skin). Chef also prepared an array of Kuchidiri, snacks served in Japanese meals featuring Deep-fried sesame cake, Eel Temari Sushi and Nanohana leaves flavoured with dashi stock. The Sea Urchin Tofu, Grilled Mackerel and Sasamaki-Fu were uniquely delectable. The bowl of Barracuda and rice simmered in dashi was so good I finished every drop of rice.
End the meal with the Rose Tea Raindrop and Strawberry Yuzu dessert.
