Mexico; an eclectic country with a cuisine that’s just as intense as it is varied. Lucky for us, the three founders of Super Loco decided to bring back a glimpse of their colourful culture and, of course, delicious street food and agave spirits in their trio of restaurants situated all round town. There is Lucha Loco on Duxton Hill, Super Loco Robertson Quay and, the newest, Super Loco Customs House. Think of them as sisters, each with their own appeal.
Lucha Loco
With a beer garden dressed in a giant neon sign screaming “Tequila”, Lucha Loco plays host to a vibrant drinking crowd under the stars. There is no better place for some after work shenanigans than this prime location upon Duxton Hill, especially when paired with a couple of tacos and shots of tequila.
Sip on their refreshing Blood Orange & Guava Margarita (featuring the Cimarron Blanco tequila), while chomping on the hearty Elotes. This Mexican street snack is typically served with plain mayo and cheese, but the people at Lucha Loco changed it up with a brush of Chipotle mayo for that extra smoky flavour. Side note: Those who love Greek Feta will love the cotija cheese grated atop. It has a similar profile, with a fatty yet less savoury taste. All in all, the cheese, mayo and dried chilies made this simple dish my favourite.
Follow it up with a bright red Taco Pescado Snapper, and, perhaps, a passionfruit based Mexican Lover Shooter. Simply grilled after spending a night in a achiote marinade, it is served with a chipotle mauo and red onion salsa with mint and parsley (for that fresh crunch). This is a great option for those looking to fill up without feeling the guilt of grease. I am a fan of fish tacos, and, now, I know where to get my fix.

Super Loco Robertson Quay
With such a prime waterfront location, it is no wonder why Super Loco Robertson Quay was packed to the brim. The joyous banter of families gathering around plates after plates of pork fillets, skirt steaks and frijoles is a typical night at this establishment. Or, in the late mornings as well. They have weekend brunch menu that’s just as robust and hearty – think Breakfast Steak Burrito!
What I love about family meals is the fun of sharing. More mouths to feed, more dishes to be ordered, and the more of the menu I get to try. And, nothing says “sharing is caring” more than a plate of Super Loco’s Alitas De Pollo a.k.a. Fried Chicken Wings.
Kids menu aside, they also cater to the adults with frozen jugs of Pina Calamansi Margarita or a glass of Margarita Ultimo, featuring the Cimmaron Blanco tequila again.

Super Loco Customs House
Things get fancier when you get a panoramic view of Marina Bay. The menu at Super Loco Customs House will not only be the only one to feature more luxurious options of lobsters, oysters and wagyu, but also includes a salad section, set lunches and takeaway options for the ever busy CBD crowd.
The plates here promises to bring a more contemporary touch to Mexican fare all while maintaining the authentic and robust flavours. A point proven well with the Cerdo. Cooked overnight with agave and a Mexican master stock (ginger, orange, achiote, oregano and soy sauce), the slices of pork belly are best eaten with black bean hummus and wrapped between the little masa pancakes (sopes).
But, what impressed me the most was the Pescado Asada Con Chili Rojo Y Perejil. Complicated name aside, it is essentially a succulent seabass that has been grilled to perfection. I loved it on its own, but each bite was made better with a splash of either the tomato-based red salsa or minty green salsa.
Super Loco Customs House also prides itself in showcasing the largest selection of tequila, mezcal and raicilla (currently at 80)! To make things even better, the bar is constantly experimenting with different infusions, some of which have made it into their unique cocktails.
