Finnair turns 90 today making it the world’s fifth oldest airline still in operation. Established in 1923, Finnair specialises in flights between Europe and Asia with direct connections from Helsinki to over 60 European destinations and 13 Asian destinations. Over eight million passengers have flown on Finnair annually. CEO Pekka Vauramo hopes to double Finnair’s Asian revenue by 2020.
Celebrating it’s 90th birthday today, passengers flying on Finnair’s long haul flights today received a special Finnair-themed edition of the Donald Duck comic book. Finnair has also commissioned a special batch of posters by Finnish graphic designer Erik Bruun.
Earlier this year, the airline has introduced Marimekko tableware and textiles in all classes of travel. The airline also upgraded its inflight entertainment system. Finnair will be installing new, fully reclining seats in most of its long-haul fleet from January next year. Spring 2014 will feature Finnair’s new Premium Lounge located between gates 36 and 37 in the non-Schengen area at Helsinki Airport.
