At yesterday’s ciNE65 II award ceremony, film maker Kenny Tan bagged two major awards in open category for “Overall Best Film” and “Best Screenplay” with his short film, “Priceless”. 73 year old veteran actress, Madam Choo Ai Keow won the “Audience’s Choice Favourite Actress” award with her role in “Unforgettable”, reassuring her passion for acting was all worth it which she only started pursuing eight years ago. (For the full list of winners, please scroll to the bottom of this article)
The bubbly & cheerful Madam Choo wishes to help promote the growth of entertainment & film industry here, often seeking new opportunities to work with aspiring film makers. In 2011, Madam Choo was cast in “Reunion Dinner” by Director Anthony Chen, whose film “Ilo Ilo” is the first Singaporean feature film to win at the prestigious Cannes Film Festival in May this year.
Be it young or old, as long as you have a dream, just go for it. It is never too late. Besides being an actress, Madam Choo has already written three screenplays and she is looking forward to writing more, hoping to share her stories based on her life experience with everyone. Perhaps we may get to see Madam Choo’s screenplay amongst the many creative short films at the next season of ciNE65.
Irene Ang, Tan Kheng Hua and Chua En Lai were also present to give out some of the awards at last night’s ceremony and we spoke to them last night and asked them what they felt about this year’s ciNE65.
Irene felt strongly for “Audience’s Choice Favourite Actress” winner Madam Choo because of her courage at her age and the energy to get out there to do what she likes. Madam Choo is an inspiration to the aging population. Irene also felt that this year’s season of ciNE65 had more online buzz and engagement this year compared to last year.
Tan Kheng Hua shared “I can just imagine that creative spirit of the short filmmakers and I am just glad there is a platform for stories to be told.” Fly Entertainment has always been supporting such budding film makers. Kheng Hua has received scripts from schools such as Temasek Polytechnic giving her the opportunity to support good scripts.
