KLM Royal Dutch Airlines marks 80 years of flying to Singapore this year. A KLM Fokker F-18 landed in Singapore on 3 May 1933 making KLM the first western airline to serve Singapore with a scheduled service. 2013 is a year of celebrations in the Amsterdam metropolitan area celebrating the 400th anniversary of Amsterdam’s canals amongst other activities – Amsterdam 2013. Visit the Concertgebouw concert hall on the Museumplein as it celebrates its 125th anniversary together with the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. The Frans Hals Museum marks its 125th anniversary with 50 key masterpieces by Dutch painter Frans Hals surrounded by paintings by peers such as Rembrandt, Rubens and Titan. The Van Gogh museum reopened 2 May, celebrating its 40th anniversary.
KLM Royal Dutch Airlines has also collaborated with Gardens by The Bay bringing in 14 tons of tulips from the Netherlands via KLM cargo. These 48,000 bulbs have been displayed at the TULIPMANIA Exhibit at the Flower Dome from 29 April til 20 May this year.
The Band of KLM Royal Dutch Airlines will be performing at the Journeys of Inspiration Concert at the Singapore Botanic Gardens on 11 May for free and also at the School of the Arts (SOTA) concert hall on 12 May for S$20. The 55 member orchestra made up of KLM employees will perform with the Singapore Winds Symphony and guest conducted by Dutch composer Johan De Meij.
