Chic Cozy IKYU at Tiong Bahru Estate

26 November 2012, Singapore – Modern Japanese restaurant IKYU opened a few months ago in the quaint and chic Tiong Bahru estate. IKYU is helmed by Executive Chef Takuma Seiki who was previously the chef-de cuisine at Hide Yamamoto in Marina Bay Sands. With an extensive culinary experience from Japan, USA to Paris, Chef Seiki serves up traditional Japanese cuisine with East-meet-West culinary techniques. It is a common sight to see him behind the sushi counter chatting and laughing with customers, a personal touch that differentiates IKYU from other Japanese restaurants.

The menu is not extensive but interesting, with enough choices in each category – Appetiser, Grilled, Fried, Roll & Meal, Sashimi, Nigiri and Dessert. If you are lazy to choose, opt for  “Omakase” (which means “It’s Up To You”) (S$128++) and leave it to the chef to surprise you with his creations.

IKYU also offers a set lunch menu ranging from S$25 to $35.  The set includes an appetiser, salad, soup and dessert.  If you are feeling the need of a mid day booze, add a glass of Prosecco, Red or White Wine for just S$8.

Happy Hour starts from 5.30pm to 7.30pm, with a range of Japanese Tapas for S$5.50 each.  You can enjoy Asahi or Sapporo beers at S$8 per bottle (or S$33 for five bottles) as well as Prosecco, Red or White Wine at S$8 per glass.

We tasted the Tuna Belly which is seasonal and not found in the standard menu.  Ask the service staff if it is available. The tuna literally melts in your mouth!   For desserts, try the seasonal fruits from Japan from S$15.
