1 November 2012, Singapore – Imagine yourself receiving red carpet treatment and enjoying the convenience of travelling light – just you and your mobile phone. DBS recently gave away instant mobile coupons such as free movie tickets, IMAX tickets and MovieBites combo at Lido cinemas to the public when they tapped their Samsung GALAXY S III and Sony Xperia S or sola smartphones.
With the new DBS one.tap MasterCard PayPass Card, you can enjoy the ease of paying and receiving instant privileges on-the-go. Tap and pay with your mobile phone for purchases at over 30,000 merchant acceptance points in Singapore such as Watsons, PastaMania, Shaw Theatres, G2000, Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen, Comfort and City Cab. You can also attach the mobile coupon on your phone before making payments and redeem the offer instantly and automatically.
Here is a flavour of the types of instant offers that come with the DBS one.tap MasterCard PayPass Card:
- Receive a free 32 oz popcorn with at least 2 tickets purchased in a single transaction at Shaw Theatres
- Free six pieces Louisiana Pepper Nuggets with a minimum spend of S$15 in a single receipt
- S$10 off with minimum S$50 spend on regular-priced items at FOX
You do not actually receive a physical card to add to your already cluttered wallet. Instead, this virtual credit card is stored in a digital wallet app “Smart Wallet” developed jointly by DBS, MasterCard, StarHub and EZ Link.
DBS one.tap MasterCard PayPass Card is powered by Near Field Communications (NFC) technology, a short-range wireless communication technology that transmits data between your mobile device and a reader. In August this year, DBS joined MasterCard, StarHub and EZ Link and other members of a consortium to launch mobile payment services using NFC technology. For more information about NFC Payments, read our article here.
Here is how the DBS one.tap MasterCard PayPass Card works for you.
- Step One: You will need a NFC-enabled handset (for now it is just the Samsung GALAXY SIII, Sony Xperia S or Sony Xperia sola). You will also need a StarHub NFC SIM card.
- Step Two: Apply for the DBS one.tap MasterCard PayPass Card through DBS/POSB iBanking or mBanking.
- Step Three: When your card is approved, download the StarHub SmartWallet App from Google Play.
- Step Four: Activate your DBS One.Tap through DBS/POSB iBanking or mBanking and you can start tapping away.
