20 July 2012, Hong Kong – Hong Kong flag carrier Cathay Pacific Airways won the “World’s Best Business Class” in the annual Skytrax World Airline Awards programme where more than 18 million airline passengers around the globe picked their choices.

Cathay Pacific attributes its Business Class to its collaboration between the airline’s customers and its team.  It incorporated the features their customers fedback which offered them the optimal balance of productivity, comfort and privacy,

Cathay Pacific Chief Executive John Slosar added that “People do make an airline and this is not just an advertising slogan.  They are the winning element that can’t be easily replicated and we’re fortunate that, on the ground and in the air, we have the industry’s best people serving our customers.”

The new business class cabin is spacious and open.  Clean, sculpted lines define private seats with direct aisle access.  Abstract patterns, richly woven fabrics, fresh-cut orchids and original artwork harmonise to create a warm, premium residential feel.

Storage Space – a generous space sufficient for handbags or laptop cases is available in the side storage.  A side cabinet and shoe locker provide secured storage for small valuables and shoes.  A vanity mirror is concealed under the flap inside the side cabinet door.   The side cabinet doubles as a privacy screen when it is fixed in the open position during flight.

Living Space – Enjoy individual privacy while you settle into the contemporary wing-back chair.

Direct Window View – Outboard seats are gently angled towards the windows, giving passengers a perfect view.

Seat Controls – You are in control of your environment.  The Entertainment Handset lets you operate the widescreen on-demand entertainment system while the Seat Controller lets you adjust your seat at the touch of a button.

The fully flat bed – Sleep in any position in one of the longest and widest bed .  Erconomically designed foams give you comfort while seated as well as to promote deep sleep.  The bed extension deploys automatically and transforms the seat into a bed increasing the bed width.  The retractable armrest can be lowered to increase sleeping space or raised to act as a privacy screen.

Companion Travel – If you are traveling with a companion, then the centre seats are meant for you two as they angle towards each other.  When the seat is reclined with the screen deployed, privacy is assured.  However, at the touch of a button, the seat slides forward allowing you to interact with your travel companion over a central cocktail table.

Work & Entertainment Features – Every seat comes with a universal power supply outlet.  A multi-port connector includes an RCA port, an iPhone/iPod connector and a USB Port. The previous two let you connect your own devices and watch video through the Personal Tv while the USB port can be used to charge your devices and smartphones.

Material & Finishes – Natural leather, brushed steel and richly woven fabrics that blend soothing green, brown and champagne tones as well as abstract patterns on table tops, fresh-cut flowers and splashes of colour in storage areas provide elements of warmth.   The front cabin somewhat resembles the reception wall in the new Hong Kong Lounge, The Cabin with subtle bamboo print.  Hong Kong artist Maria Lobo’s unique abstract works which incorporates both Western and Asian techniques bring life to the cabin.

Soon to come – Cathay Pacific will introduce a new line of Business Class service-ware by Narumi of Japan.  The appetiser plate features an abstract bamboo patter found on the signature plate introduced in The Deli of The Cabin.   Stemless wine glasses will also be introduced for the first time to allow wine to breathe more easily.  Modern stainless steel cutlery and new table linen will also be introduced while the iconic “pebble” salt and pepper shakers remain.

Cathay Pacific will also be introducing a new range of duvets, blankets, pillows and cushions for the new cabin to maximise passenger comfort and complement the overall feel of the surroundings.
