Singapore Changi Airport May 2012 Operating Indicators

22 June 2012, Singapore – 4.09 million travellers passed through Singapore Changi Airport last month contributing to a 8.4% increase compared to a year ago.    Flight movements also increased 8% with Asia continuing to drive double-digit increases for traffic to and from Northeast Asia, South Asia and the Middle East.  Passenger movements at Changi grew 12% to 20.6 million with Asian routes accounting for 80% of all traffic, year-to-date.

Cargo dropped to 2.8% year-on-year with 152,900 tonnes of cargo registered last month.  Changi Airport registered a decrease of 1.3% to 745,000 tonnes of cargo handled int he first months of 2012.

On 4 June, 2012,  Scoot started daily flights to Sydney and five-weekly services to Gold Coast, a new city link for Changi.   Today, Singapore Changi Airport serves 100 airlines operating more than 6,200 weekly flights connecting Singapore to 220 destinations in 60 countries.  On 5 June 2012, SilkAir introduced three-times-a-week flights to Hanoi.

In May, Victoria’s Secret, Braun Buffel and Goldheart Jewellery opened in Terminal 1 while Japanese snack brand Umeya and eatery Central Thai opened outlets on level 2 & 3 of the Departure Hall in Terminal 2 respectively.   In the transit area of Terminal 2, Cotton On, McDonald’s Wang Cafe, Delifrance, Cocoa & Co and Sakae Sushi opened last month.
