20 February 2012, Singapore – Get your hands on a fine piece of Peranakan history. Carefully curated, The Collector’s Sale will showcase Peranakan porcelain nyonyaware, hand embroidered tapestries, beaded shoes, batiks, rose cut intan and diamond jewelry pieces put on sale by the collectors.
The Peranakans, whose name means “local born” in Malay, are descendants of Chinese traders who settled in Malacca, Malaysia and around the coastal areas of Java and Sumatra in Indonesia, as early as the 14th century.
Drawn by commerce, they migrated to the bustling ports of Penang and Singapore in the 19th century.
The Collector’s sale is a rare opportunity for the public to experience authentic Peranakan items from private collections in Singapore upclose and personal.
When: Saturday 10 March 2012 to 11 March 2012
Where: The Intan, 69 Joo Chiat Terrace, Singapore 427231
The event is open to public.
