Nasi Tumpeng is served during celebrations and festive occasions in various parts of Indonesia.  This dish’s centrepiece is a cone of fried glutinous rice with conpoy and mushroom and surrounded by tiny side servings of the traditional Lunar New Year “treasures” is perfect for new year reunion dinners and gatherings.

These treasures include preserved sausage, marinated octopus, sautéed shrimp and more – symbolising an aspect of wealth, happiness and family.    Shrimp, pronounced “ha” in Cantonese signifies laughter while the multiple arms of the octopus symbolizes having many opportunities to obtain wealth.
