December 2011 -With a population of 2.6 million, Osaka is the central city of West Japan. During a recent trip up to Destination Osaka during AirAsia X’s inaugural flight from Kuala Lumpur to Osaka, I was able to check out very briefly some of the beautiful sights of Osaka. A return to Osaka some day is imminent.
Shinsaibashi 心斎橋
One of the best downtown areas in the city, Shinsaibashi is where you can find a wide variety of shops. A covered shopping street of eight blocks, you would be able to find major stores and boutiques. Here you would probably go crazy shopping and trying out new clothes Take your time. Stop by some of the take away food and drink outlets in between shopping. Depends on whether you are a shopaholic, be sure to plan out how much time you would need.

Osaka Castle 大坂城
Constructed in 1583, the castle is built on two raised platforms of landfill supported by sheer walls of cut rock. The central castle building is eight stories high inside and five stories outside. It was built on top of a tall stone foundation so that the occupants would be protected from sword-bearing attackers in the past. There are thirteen structures within the 60,000 square metres of the castle ground that have been designated by the Japanese government as Important Cultural Assets.
Perfect for a picnic as well as to feed the pigeons, the castle is a very peaceful getaway. Remember to enjoy the sights and sounds. Be sure to slow down your pace here and just people watch too.
