9 September 2011, Singapore – Having heard so many great reviews from friends who had watched “Wicked the Broadway Musical” in London and New York, I went to catch its opening night here in Marina Bay Sands, Singapore, with very high hopes and expectations. This is my first time watching “Wicked” and I was mesmerised by its storyline, stage setup and the performances of the all Australian cast for this Singapore production. From the moment I walked into the theatre, my eyes caught the huge mechanical Dragon hanging on top of the stage. When the show begins, I was brought back to my childhood, scrutinising every detail on the costumes and stage, anticipating the next plot of the storyline. I was deeply impressed when Elphaba sang “Defying Gravity”, and I am sure you would when you see it for yourself. As the show progresses, the stage transforms from one scene to another seamlessly and fluidly right before your eyes. Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, once said that she was “Beautifully Tragic”; I shall twist that quote and describe “Wicked” as a “Tragically Beautiful” story told from the perspective of the witches of our favourite childhood novel, “The Wizard of Oz”. “Wicked” tells the untold relationship between Glinda, the Good Witch of the North and Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, and the dark truth that makes the Wicked Witch of the West so wicked. Have you ever wondered about the origins of the Scarecrow, Tin Woodman and Cowardly Lion from “The Wizard of OZ”? Why Dorothy and Toto were sent to Land of Oz through a tornado? All those truths await you in this epic musical. I highly recommend “Wicked the Broadway Musical” to everyone out there to take this opportunity and catch this world class performance while it is in Singapore for a limited season.

Hi, which seats category did u watch it from? I’m thinking of going but was afraid the cheaper seats would not be able to ser anything! Which priced seats would u recommend?
I’m afraid the rave reviews only serve to reinforce the perception that people are getting more and more like Galinda (before she became Glinda). Entertaining? Yes. Moving? Definitely not. Worth the ticket price? I’d rather spend the money on a cheap flight to Bangkok.

I was fortunate to be at the Singapore Gala evening of WICKED last evening. Having watched numerous musicals in my lifetime, what is another one? Despite rave reviews by SUPERADRIANME I was still skeptical about watching another one. However, I was thoroughly surprised and mesmerized by the costumes, music, singing, talent of the cast not to mention the stage props and colours. There is something magical about this ONE. Don’t miss this ONE even though it may be just another for you.
