BlackBerry Tag Lets you Tap To Share Content & Contacts

12 October 2011, Singapore – Research In Motion (RIM) is set to launch a new way for BlackBerry smartphone users to connect with one another and share multimedia content with BlackBerry Tag.

BlackBerry Tag wil be incorporated in the next BlackBerry 7 OS update.  You would be able to instantly share contact information, documents, URLs, photos and other multimedia content by tapping two BlackBerry smartphones together.  Adding contacts onto BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) is going to be so much easier.  This feature should have been launched much earlier!!  This is definitely easier than scanning QR codes or searching for your BlackBerry Pin.  I guess it’s better late than never.

BlackBerry Tag uses Near Field Communications (NFC) technology included in the recently launched BlackBerry Bold 9900/9930 and BlackBerry Curves 9350/9360/9370 smartphones, which will be the first BlackBerry smartphones to support BlackBerry Tag.  So users of the older models of BlackBerry smartphones, it’s time to upgrade!

Software developers will also be able to take advantage of this new functionality from within their own applications when RIM exposes the BlackBerry Tag through APIs on the BlackBerry Platform.

No clear date has been announced when the update will be available at this point in time.
