3 October 2011, Singapore – Red Bull has collaborated with The National Football Association of Brunei Darussalam (NFABD) to organize South East Asia’s first Red Bull Tri-Nations Futsal Cup with Singapore, Brunei and Malaysia participating.

The Cup aims to raise standards of futsal in the participating countries and reinforce Red Bull’s support for the sport.

“With the gaining popularity and interest in futsal in Singapore, Red Bull Singapore aims to provide a platform to groom talents in this sport and to give them an opportunity to compete on a regional level”, says Jyn Wee, Regional Marketing Director of Red Bull.

Since July 2011, a total of 350 team competed against each other in their respective countries.  In Singapore, Red Bull worked with North West Community Development Council (CDC) to search for a representing team during the North West Futsal Challenge 2011 organized by the CDC on 19 June 2011.

Ms. Crystal Teng, General Manager for North West CDC says, “We are glad that Red Bull approached North West CDC to select the representing team for Singapore.  We have been organizing North West Futsal Challenge annually since December 2005; and it has proven to be a popular sport among our youths.  In fact, it has been so well received by the youths that we have increased the frequency of the Challenge to become a quarterly competition.  On average, about 700 youths participate in each run of the Challenge to compete and make friends with each.  We often see teams who have not progressed to the next round staying behind to cheer for their friends.”

Thirty teams played against one another in the North West Futsal Challenge to represent Singapore in the first Red Bull Tri-Nations Cup held in Brunei.  Winner of the Red Bull Tri-Nations Cup will receive cash prize of S$4,500, a trophy and medals for the team.

Red Bull Singapore Futsal Team will be led by Imran bin Muhammad Zainuddin.  The finals will be held in Brunei on 9 October 2011 with HRH Prince Sufri of Brunei gracing the finals as the Guest of Honour.
