August 2011, Singapore – Three Italian teenage dudes have struck the right chords hit the global centrestage with their tenor voices and debut album named after the group, Il Volo.

The trio is made up of:

  • Ignazio Boschetto: Born in Bologna and residing in Marsala, 16 years old
  • Piero Barone: From Agrigento, 17 years old
  • Gianluca Ginoble: From Roseto degli Abruzzi and native in Atri,  16 years old

The trio have touched and thrilled audiences and achieved a remarkable series of unprecedented results.

Il Volo is the first Italian singer group ever to sign for an American label Geffen from the Universal American group. They were also the only Italian artists invited amongst 80 other international names such as Celine Dion, Bono, Lady Gaga, Carlos Santana, Barbara Streisand, Enrique Iglesias, Usher, Natalie Cole, Will.I.am of Black Eyed Peas to take part in We Are The World for Haiti. They performed in front of Queen Rania of Jordon at the Sanremo Music Festival.

In 2009, they distinguished themselves in a TV show hosted by Antonella Clerici on the Raiuno network called Ti lascio una canzone. But the trio has to credit “Mister Quando Quando Quando” Tony Renis and their manager Michele Torpedine for their success today.  Tony Renis was joined by Humberto Gatica, another international producer who has produced music for the cream of the industry including Celine Dion, Michael Jackson, Michael Buble, Barbara Streisand, Madonna and Elton John.

Il Volo: The Debut Album

Produced by Humberto Gatica and world renowned Italian singer/producer Tony Renis, IL VOLO was recorded in Los Angeles and Rome, as well as at London’s famous Abbey Road Studios.    Geffen Records Chairman Ron Fair executive produced the album.

The album’s 12 tracks include both classic and new compositions:

  • Il Mondo
  • E Piu Ti Penso (a medley of Ennio Morricone songs from the soundtracks of Once Upon a Time in America and Malena)
  • Their version of “O Sole Mio”
  • Un Amore Cosi Grande ( a classic from the late ’80s Italian music tradition)
  • El Reloj (a brand-new song sung in Spanish)
  • Smile (written by Charlie Chaplin for his film Modern Times and later popularized by Nat King Cole)
  • Per Te (written by multiple Grammy award-winning songwriter/producer Walter Afanasieff)
  • La Luna Hizo Esto
  • È La Mia Vita
  • Notte Stellata / The Swan (from the well known musical theme composed by French composer Camille Saint-Saens)
  • Painfully Beautiful (La Luna Hizo Esto and Painfully Beautiful were both written specially for IL VOLO by multi-platform songwriter Diane Warren)
  • This Time (a new song written by Michelle Lewis)

This album will give you 49:24 of listening pleasure.

I listened to the album and was impressed with their voices. No one would really have expected that the voices belonged to 3 teenagers.   They have joined the ranks of the “Ten Tenors” and I would rate them the younger generation of the likes of Plácido Domingo, José Carreras, and Luciano Pavarotti.   Worth checking out the album!!
