14 July 2011, Singapore – The second season of FairPrice Family Cook Off moves from terrestrial to cable television this year after a successful premiere season in 2010.   This seven episode cooking reality show will air on Asian Food Channel and E City on StarHub TV with a one-hour episode each week for seven weeks from 25 October to 6 December 2011.  The first episode is scheduled to air on 25 October with subsequent episodes broadcasted every Tuesday at 8pm with reruns at 4pm on Sundays.  One-minute recipe vignettes will also air every day over the seven-week run on AFC, E City, Variety Vision Drama and TLC.

Format of Show

Each week, two families go head to head in three 20-minute cook off challenges using mandatory ingredients.   This season will also be inspiring healthier cooking with a recipe makeover challenge where contestants will have to put a healthy spin on a popular Singapore dish.   Each family will also be required to prepare a signature dish and cook up a creative dish with four ingredients in five minutes in the mystery ingredient challenge

  • First four episodes – 2 families will compete against each other in each episode  to vie for a spot in the semi finals.
  • Episode five and six – Semi finals
  • Episode seven – Grand Finals

Judges

  • Two HPB nutritionists
  • Fay Khoo, Author and television host for various Malaysian food guides and food television programmes.  She has her own brand of spices “Miss Khoo’s Asian Deli”.  Fay is also a food editor for Time Out KL and a columnist for Esquire.

Celebrity Hosts
This season, celebrity couple Evelyn Tan and Darren Lim will host the FairPrice Cook Off Season 2.  Evelyn is an advocate for cooking and eating together as a family.  She also recently hosted HPB’s Family Carnival 2010.

Sponsors Behind The Programme
Health Promotion Board (HPB) joins the main sponsor of the first and second season of FairPrice Family Cook Off, FairPrice this season with the objective  to highlight joys and benefits of cooking and eating together as a family. FairPrice has been a sponsor of the series because it gives them the opportunity to engage their customers y bringing easy-to-prepare and affordable meals to families, and promotes family togetherness as well as through home cooking.

For FairPrice, there will also be in-store sales campaigns, mobile websites and Point-of-sales recipe cards from the programme for patrons to bring back to try their hand at the recipes at home.

Registrations Open
From now till 5 August 2011, online registrations are now opened at .  All you need to do is to get another 3 more family members to join you and submit a recipe that is dear to your family.  Family members can comprise of spouse, children or siblings.

Filming will take place at Marina Bay Golf Course overlooking the skyline that includes landmarks such as the Singapore Flyer and the towering Marina Bay Sands.

We were hosted by the Cotton Family today for the media announcement. The Cotton family was the winner of season one with their finale signature dish French Asian Duck Crepes.  Consisting of father Herve, 37, mother Susan 44 and the three sons, Alex, 9, Olivier, 7 and Reginald, 6, the family opened the French-styled family restaurant “Cotton Bleu” fresh off their win.

They serve excellent dishes at reasonable prices at their only outlet at 205 Upper Thomson Road, Yew Lian Park.  With its cosy settings, enjoy home cooked dishes of which I have also heard raving reviews from some of my friends too.
