Paradise on the Water’s Edge at The Club Med Spa on Bintan Island

16 September, 2010, Bintan, Indonesia – The Club Med Spa is a new addition to Club Med Bintan.  Operated by Asmara Lifestyle, a comprehensive range of stress-relieving and relaxing treatments using French Luxury brand Payot products are offered.  The Club Med Bintan is the only spa in the region to offer a full range of exclusive products from Payot.  Other Asmara Lifestyle concepts include Aramsa, The Garden Spa,  Canopy Garden Dining and Spa and Greenroom Cafe which are located at Bishan Park in Singapore.

The Spa is perched on a promontory by the water’s edge with 15 beds in 10 rooms which include a Honeymoon Suite, Couple Suites and Single Suites.  Each suite has a picture-perfect view of the blue skies and the ocean.  The use of natural materials like wood provide the suites a soothing atmosphere that blends with the natural greenery outdoors.  Treatment rooms are located on stilts. When the spa was built, much care was taken to preserve the indigenous plants and trees that grow in the area.  The spa was built around major trees and mangrove plants creating a harmony between nature and modern lifestyle.

Treatments and Products

The treatments at the Club Med Bintan Spa are a mix of tradition and new-age luxury.  There are offerings inspired by local Indonesian therapies and others which use the best of modern mineral-based products.  On the menu are treatments like Tropical Java Lulur which use ingredients such as rice and tumeric as an exfoliant to gently remove dull skin.

I tried the signature massage – Asmara Traditional Massage which releases tight knots and muscles with a mix of spice oils infused in a herbal concoction that improves energy and blood circulation.  It was relaxing and the sound from the sea waves was hypnotic. I had the choice of fresh air or air conditioned treatment.  Naturally, I took the latter.  After the 90 minute session, I was escorted to the Spa Lounge to relax over a cup of herbal tea.
