13 September 2010, Bintan, Indonesia – This morning I got up early to get to Tanah Merah Ferry Terminal near Changi Airport. Cab fare was S$27 from Yio Chu Kang!!!! Checked in at around 10am and was on our way to Bintan on the Ferry at 11am. 45 kilometres south-east of Singapore, we reached Bintan at around 11plus Indonesian time which is 1 hour behind Singapore. It took us another 15 minutes to get to Club Med Bintan where we were welcomed by the Guest Officers and the Chef de Village gave us a short welcome speech.
We were given sea-facing Deluxe rooms, which to my pleasant surprise, were quite luxurious. Twin sharing is fine as the rooms are huge. There’s a King sized bed and a desk which faces the a flat TV Screen in the 34 square metred rooms. Since the renovations, the rooms Deluxe rooms have a chic new look with warm touches of red and orange. Connecting rooms are also available as well as Deluxe with Terrace located on the ground.
Amenities that come with the Deluxe rooms include
- free consumption of items in the mini bar in the room for the duration of your stay (they do not top it up though) which includes some cans of soft drinks and soda water, Cup noodles and chips.
- free wifi in rooms and through out the resort (of course wifi signal may be weak in some areas). Try to get a room nearer to the main block. You can only log onto one access point with the assigned userid and password. i.e. you can’t log on to your iPhone and laptop at the same time.
- toileteries – shower gel, conditioning shampoo, body lotion, hand soap, mosquito repellent, toothbrush and tooth paste, cotton buds and cotton swaps, shaver, sewing kit, shoe shine kit. (The conditioning shampoo and shower gel were not too dry for my hair and skin)
- fruit platter
Here’s what the room looks like.
A clean toilet is always important to me as a traveler. The toilet is in a separate room from the shower area. The shower room is large. I think it fits 2 adults, and could also possibly include 2 kids comfortably!
The view from the room balcony is very nice and therapeutic. Enjoying the lush green trees and white sandy beaches along the warm blue waters of the South China sea and listening to the waves, while sipping a hot cup of tea and reading a book or working on your laptop from your balcony could be part of a perfect relaxing holiday.
Oh and do check out the “Do Not Disturb” and “Please Make Up Room” door hangars. Adorable, aren’t they?
For room rates and other types of rooms, you may check the Club Med website. Also check out the pool and beach here. Sunsets here are also amazing. Be sure to also visit the spa.
