The new Lufthansa Premium Economy will debut on the German airline’s new Boeing 747-8s from 10 December this year. The Boeing 747-8s will serve routes from Frankfurt to and from Buenos Aires, Chicago, Hong Kong, Mexico City, Sao Paulo, Seoul, Beijing and Washington, D.C..
The new range of Lufthansa Premium Economy and Business Class seats has won the Red Dot Award: Product Design 2014 in the category of Vehicle Accessories. They were picked from 4,815 entries from 53 countries. More than 1.5 million passengers will be able to enjoy the new seats with the installation of 3,600 seats in all 106 long-haul aircraft in just one year.
The new seats were designed together with müller/romca Industrial Design in Kiel and produced by ZIM Flugsitz near Lake Constance. You can enjoy 3 centimetres wider seats depending on the aircraft type, approximately 10 centimetres more room at the side created by each seat’s wide armrest and a centre console between the seats. The back rest can be reclined further and the seat pitch is 38 inches. This is around one and a half times more room than Economy class. Head rests can be set to the exact height desired and folded at the sides for added comfort and support. Foot rests from the second row back can be adjustable. Other new features include bottle holder, electrical socket and storage space for your belongings.
