Men In Black 3

21 May 2012, Singapore – It’s been 10 years since Men In Black 2, and our favourite Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones) and Agent J (Will Smith) are back to prevent another alien invasion. But this time Agent J has to go back in time to 1969 to save Agent K’s assassination in order to save the world. 1969 is an era of pop culture where hippies rule and racialism on black at its peak. So expect a lot of good old history humour that we seldom see on big screens these days. Men In Black 3 is not just a sequel, it’s a chapter that contains a lot of inner emotions and a heart warming closing to the 15 year franchise. Do not miss this if you are a Men In Black fan and it’s definitely a weekend movie for all. I will rate this 4 out of 5.

Directed by Barry Sonnenfeld starring Will Smith, Tommy Lee Jones, Josh Brolin, Jemaine Clement and Emma Thompson.

Ian Luah in Reckless Ericka at Men's Fashion Week Singapore 2012

21 May 2012, Singapore – A fresh and popular face on the runways of this year’s Men’s Fashion Week in April has made 23 year old +3 Models model Ian Luah the talk of the town.  With long bangs and an almost expressionless face, this 1.84 metre tall lad is a man of few words.

We first met Ian when he was one of the contestants in last year’s Best Model Of The World competition.

We spoke to Ian to try to find out a more intimate side of him.  We asked him before Mothers’ Day about his mother and what he would do for her.  We also asked him for some insights into his modelling stint.

How do you usually spend Mothers’ Day?

IL: Just a simple dinner with the rest of my family

What do you think  would be the best gift for mum?

IL: Air ticket for her to travel the world

What would you get you mum this year?

My brothers and I are buying her an iPad

IL: Yes she is in a way though she does joke about her having a daughter now

What are some of the exciting modelling assignments that you’ve gone through this year?

IL: I was privileged enough to participate in Men’s Fashion Week 2012. That was a lot of exposure. Credits should be given to Addie Low from +3 Models and Daniel Boey who has been guiding me throughout.

What do you enjoy most about modelling?  Share with us some insights.

IL: The different people from all walks of life.

22 May 2012, Singapore – Hong Kong lifestyle label Goods of Desire currently operates eight retail outlets in Hong Kong. Co-founded by architects Douglas Young and Benjamin Lau in 1996 as a retail space in Ap Lei Chau, the lifestyle retailer markets fashion, gift ideas, homeware and furniture.

Come end June, the retailer will open its first flagship store outside Hong Kong at Central in Clarke Quay. Taking up 6,000 square feet of retail space, fashion and lifestyle arm of Far East Organisation, LifeStyle Scene Pte Ltd will open the brand’s fourth largest store.

Kim and her two daughters

21 May 2012, Singapore – As part of our dedication to mothers in the month of May,  we interviewed Mrs Kim Marie Thng, who won the Mrs Singapore World 2012 title and a 34 year old home-maker from a bi-racial marriage.  Her father is Caucasian (American) and her mother is Peranakan (Singaporean). Kim Marie has been married for 9 years to her first boyfriend and now husband Leslie Thng. He works in a major international airline. They have two daughters, Desiree age 5 and Beverly age 4.

Kim Marie helps out at a Catholic home for children from needy and troubled families. She believes that with God’s grace, determination and hard work, we can conquer all and make the needy in society feel loved and appreciated.

What do you usually do to celebrate Mother’s Day… as a mother yourself as well as with your own mother/mother-in-law?

KIM: We are a very close knitted family. To an extent that even our in-laws get together. So for Mother’s Day, we would all come together for a feast. At times, the invitation would even include my aunties and my 85 year old granny! A small gift and bouquet of flowers would often be prepared for us as tokens of our selfless contributions to our family.

What are the qualities of a good mother and which of these qualities do you display more prominently to your children?

Kim: I feel that every mother wants what’s best for her children. But in order to do her job well, there are some pre-requisites I feel that are crucial to help her along. Apart from providing constant unconditional love, the two main qualities would be patience and wisdom. I may have to work on being the most patient mother in the world but I can proudly say I am certainly one of the most affectionate and loving one!:-)

How has life changed after winning Mrs Singapore?

Kim: Winning Mrs Singapore World 2012 has left a very deep impression and has been one of the most exciting times in my life. This competition has taught me strength of endurance andcertainly made a boost on my confidence. I am honoured to be part of this industry which works so closely with several charity organisations. I look forward to contribute as much as I can to make a difference in someone else’s life.

Any words of inspiration for mothers?

Kim: Being a Mother is such a joy and at the same time, it can also be the biggest sacrifice you ever make. Many a times, you find yourself putting ‘yourself’ last on your list of things to do. At times, when the going gets tough, it may seem that your whole world is crumbling down. But from one Mother to another, watching my children develop into confident little girls and knowing that I had some part to play in it is priceless. I find comfort in knowing that my children feel secure and loved because of me. Motherhood is certainly one roller-coaster ride but at the end of the day, it is worth every effort. So breathe, focus, ride out the storms, savour your victories and enjoy every minute of it!

Sony Cybershot TX10

21 May 2012, Singapore – Looking for a slim and stylish waterproof camera? Look no further as the sleek looking Sony Cybershot TX10 waterproof camera is perfect for just that.  During a recent trip to Manado,  my snorkeling instructors doubted me when I told them the camera is waterproof. The Sony Cybershot TX10 is great as a travel camera because I can just pop it into a small pouch and use it regardless of rain or shine and wet or dry.  Just slide down the slider and you are ready to shoot with a burst mode of up to 10 frames per second so that you would not miss that moment.

If you want to capture the moment, the last thing you need is spending time changing the settings on your camera. With the Auto Scene Selection Mode, I was able to capture a pretty portrait (below) of my friend without flash on the boat with the strong sun rays shining from the back.

As for the quality of the underwater shots, it is pretty much dependent on the clarity of the water.  If the water is murky, it will be harder to take clear and colourful pictures of the fishes or corals.  But don’t be disappointed by all these!  Always take as many photos as possible, there’s always Photoshop and other free editing software such as Picasa that can help to enhance the photos.
