Today Singapore’s most famous Giant Panda pair celebrated their birthdays with a big panda party at River Safari. Kai Kai turns seven on 14 September while Jia Jia turned six on 3 September. They arrived in Singapore on 6 September last two years ago.
The duo were treated to birthday cakes specially designed by students of ITE College West.
At the birthday bash, ‘Kai Kai Jia Jia Er Ge’, a nursery rhyme book for pre-school children that tells the adventures of the two pandas in Singapore. The Chinese book was written by five teachers – Mdm Ng Tai Cheen, Principal Master Teacher (Chinese); Ms Lim Siew Gek, Retired teacher and former HOD/Mother Tongue of Ahmad Ibrahim Primary School; Mdm Teng Mui Kim, Retired Teacher and former Senior teacher of St. Andrew’s Junior school; Mdm Lee Kam Har, senior Chinese language teacher of ACS Primary and Mdm Yang Fang, Chinese Language teacher of Ahmad Ibrahim Primary School.
Earlier tonight, more than 150 guests participated in a Panda Lantern Parade and shone lanterns of hope to light the way for the future of the endangered species.
As part of Kai Kai and Jia Jia’s birthday celebrations, activities for the public will be organised for the Panda Party Week at River Safari from 6 to 14 September.
You can be a Panda Researcher, or go behind-the-scenes with a panda keeper and breakfast and enrichment toys for Kai Kai and Jia Jia. Learn about the adaptations of a giant panda in helping it to find and consume bamboos and more at the River Safari.
