15 June 2012, Singapore – Last week, I managed to try out the new Nokia 808 PureView and was rather impressed with the photo quality of this Symbian based smartphone. The Nokia 808 PureView will be available from now in Black and White, priced at S$839 at Nokia retail stores, as well as at Singtel, Starhub and M1 shops in Singapore with data plan.

So here are the Pros & Cons:

Pros

  • F2.4 Carl Zeiss optics
  • Equipped with both Xenon flash and LED video light
  • 1080p full high-definition (HD) video recording
  • Rich Recording that enables distortion-free audio recording
  • 4x “lossless digital zoom”
  • Nokia 808 PureView manage to keep the noise level low at up to ISO 800
  • Great image quality even at indoor ambient lighting conditions
  • Image quality is still sharp and clear at 8, 5 & 2 megapixels quality when it’s digitally zoomed
  • Digital zooming during video recording
  • ISO and scene selection for better control of the camera
  • Ergonomic design that feels comfortable in your hand

Cons

  • New zooming gesture control that takes a while getting used to
  • 4x “lossless digital zoom” only available at 8, 5 & 2 megapixels quality
  • Dedicated shutter button not as responsive when compared to the on-screen shutter button
  • Running on Symbian OS, which is not a popular choice.
