31 March 2012, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia – The third edition of the 1Malaysia International Shoe Festival 2012 returned to Putra World Trade Centre in Kuala Lumpur.  Kicking off two days ago, Her Majesty Seri Paduka Bagina Raja Permaisuri Agong Tuanku Hajah Haminah Binti Haji Hamidun D.K.M., D.K.H. was the Guest of Honour who officiated the Opening Ceremony.

Present at the opening ceremony was Malaysia’s Tourism Minister YB Dato’ Seri Dr Ng Yen Yen and Malaysia’s Tourism Ambassador and shoe couturer Professor Dato’ (Dr) Jimmy Choo OBE.

The joint organisers, Ministry of Tourism Malaysia and Malaysian Footwear Manufacturers Association expect to make RM6. million worth of sales during the four day festival.  With more than 150 local and overseas shoe manufacturers participating, the organisers are aiming for more than 60,000 local and overseas shoe fashionistas to attend the exhibition.

Participating brands this year included Levis, Skechers, Florsheim, Florucci amongst others.

There was also a ‘Wedding Shoe Wonderland’ showcasing conventional and unconventional bridal shoes – from high heels, boots, platform shoes, sneakers to sport shoes.   Other highlights included Jimmy Choo ‘ SOGNO’ Gallery, Malaysia Footwear Design Competition, Shoe and Health Corner and Rainforest Shoe House.

In 2011, over 55,000 visitors attended with total sales of RM6.2 million transacted during the three-day event.  More than 15% were trade visitors from over 40 countries including the Middle East, France, U.S.A., Australia, U.K., China, Taiwan, India and Pakistan.

The shoe industry in Malaysia has over a century of history, evolving from an OEM focused industry to internationally prominent brands today.   Statistics have also shown that the annual export sales of shoes from Malaysia have accounted for over RM6 hundred million to countries including Singapore, Germany and Italy while local sales contributed to RM5 hundred million.
