With the objective to find out the state of home networking in Singapore, Cisco managed to get more than 350 participants.

Here’s what they found out:

  • More than half of the respondents rated their wireless connection at home as less than good
  • Majority of the users have a connection speed of more than 10Mbps – making Singapore the sixth top nation worldwide in terms of average connection speed.
  • At least four users connected to their home network in 40% of the households surveyed
  • 52% of the respondents connect at least five devices to their home network
  • 65% use the default router supplied by their service provider while only 35% purchased their own router
  • 80% of respondents consider the reliability and quality of their wireless connection as most important when selecting a wireless router for the home network
  • Only 11% view value-for-money as the most important factor when selecting a wireless router for the home network

It has become a trend to connect multiple devices such as smart TVs, tablets, smart phones, computers, game consoles and printers to the home network.  Engaging in bandwidth-intensive activities such as video streaming and online gaming has also become more popular.   Hence, there is the need to upgrade your router to meet these digital lifestyle needs.  The router plays a central role in connecting devices to the Internet but also connecting multiple devices to each other.

Multiple devices connected to a router gives you wireless freedom while streaming movies from the computer to the TV, share photos from your smartphone with the tablet and print wirelessly just to name a few.

Cisco home networking solutions has a few routers that allows the powerful wireless-n home network such as the Linksys E-Series wireless routers, X-Series modem routers and wireless – n peripherals.
