9 October 2011, Brunei – The Red Bull Tri-Nations Cup 2011 was held at the Indoor Stadium, Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex today. The three winning teams from Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia and Singapore were in town to battle out in a round robin match against each other to see who would emerge as the eventual champion.
QAF FC B from Brunei and LTS FC Malaysia were much more experienced having played and won awards from regional futsal matches. The team from Malaysia also had ex national players. A much younger and rookier team from Singapore, Team B.A was there to gain experience in a regional platform. At the press conference held a day earlier, I asked Team B.A Manager and Player Imran bin Muhammad Zainuddin his thoughts about playing against stronger opponents and what he and his team would like to achieve. Imran replied that he and his team would like to gain the experience playing with his overseas counterparts. They were here for the opportunity and exposure. In fact, he was undeterred by the fact that his counterparts were much stronger.
QAF FC B (Brunei) played against Team B.A (Singapore) at 130pm scoring 14-1 followed by an improved score of 12-2 which was played between LTS FC (Malaysia).
The final match between LTS FC and QAF FC B was a very exciting match with both teams scoring a draw of 3-3. Yellow cards were raised and the Malaysian team had a red card as well. QAF FC B emerged the champion based on points.
The overall atmosphere within the indoor stadium was filled with adrenaline albeit not a full house.
