29 June 2011, Singapore – This is the third Transformers film, the last for both director Michael Bay and actor Shia LaBeouf. In this latest installment, the plot starts from 1960s where Neil Armstrong first landed on the moon with a top secret mission to investigate on the unknown flying object that crashed on the moon. Back to the present, Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf) is jobless but has a new smart and beautiful girlfriend, Carly Miller (Rosie Huntington-Whiteley), while the Autobots and the US Military’s NEST team led by Lt Col. Lennox (Josh Duhamel) takes down the rest of the Decepticons remaining on Earth. So to cut the story short, the US Military have kept the secret of their discovery of the Cybertron spaceship on the moon from the Autobots. Megatron plots to lure Optimus Prime to send the Autobots to recover the remains on the spaceship, bring them back to Earth and the war begins.
The movie feels like “War of the Worlds” meets “Transformers”, it have Armageddon battle scenes staged in Chicago with falling buildings and innocent humans running for refuge or get killed by the Decepticons. Compared to “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen” which is staged in the middle of a dessert in Egypt, this installment is more exciting and engaging. The storyline is pretty much the same from the previous two installments, with Autobots and the US Military working hand in hand to defeat the Decepticons and Sam running around saving the world with his new girlfriend (no more Megan Fox). But this time there’s more comedy moments which makes the 2.5 hrs movie more enjoyable. This movie will appeal to all Transformers fans and definitely better than “Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen”, i also recommend to catch this in 3D for the kick ass fight scenes.
I would rate this movie 3.5 out of 5.
Directed by Michael Bay, starring Shia LaBeouf, Josh Duhamel, Tyrese Gibson, John Turturro, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Frances McDormand, Patrick Dempsey, John Malkovich
