2 June 2011, Singapore – X-Men: First Class charts the epic beginning of the X-Men saga, and reveals a secret history of famous global events. Before mutants had revealed themselves to the world, and before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Not archenemies, they were instead at first the closest of friends, working together with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop Armageddon. In the process, a grave rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto’s Brotherhood and Professor X’s X-Men.
Directed by Matthew Vaughn, starring James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, Rose Byrne, Jennifer Lawrence, Oliver Platt, Zoe Kravitz, January Jones, Nicholas Hoult.
This original screenplay is staged in the 1960s where in history the Cuban Missile Crisis took place, so you will find many cut scenes of speeches by the late John F Kennedy. Linking real history and fiction gives a bit more realism and a bridge for you to bond with the movie. Other than just plain excitement from the super power action flicks, this time round the story pretty much revolve around the relationship between Raven (Jennifer Lawrence), Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) and Erik Lehnsherr (Michael Fassbender). I shall not reveal too much now, but here’s a teaser trailer with Mystique’s childhood. The story also shows a lot on the personality of the characters, making the movie complete and you looking forward to see the next X-Men movie. This movie is suitable for X-Men and Non X-Man fans, since its telling the story from the very beginning I bet it will convert some non fans to fans too.
I would rate this movie 4.5 out of 5.
