24 April 2011, Singapore – Sony Ericsson recently launched the Android smartphone, Xperia arc, which is built to take good quality pictures whenever and wherever you are. Some key features of the Xperia arc include:
- One of the first smartphones to launch on the latest Android OS (Android™ 2.3 or Gingerbread) in Singapore
- Super-slim and measuring just 8.7mm at its thinnest point
- Extra wide 4.2” multi-touch Reality Display with Mobile BRAVIA® Engine to ensure ultimate multimedia and viewing experiences
- Sony Exmor R™ for mobile allows unparalleled low-light photography and video capture
- Bright f/2.4 lens to aid capturing low-light photos and HD videos
Sony Ericsson Xperia arc VS iPhone 4
Here are a couple of comparison tests for pictures taken without editing, using with the Xperia arc and iPhone 4 (which is what I use). One of the most obvious and impressive difference that Xperia arc has over iPhone 4 is the ability to take pictures under extreme dim lighting condition without using flash – all thanks to the Sony Exmor R sensor used on the Xperia arc. Here’s the comparison test when I tried it out recently at a a dimly lighted alfresco restaurant.
Under bright daylight, you will notice more vivid and saturated color on the Xperia arc. The camera angle is also slightly wider than the iPhone 4. According to your preference, some users may not like the less natural, vivid & saturated colors that the Xperia arc produced, but some will like it because they need not edit the pictures before sharing it with friends. These comparison will be helpful for the general public, as this is not a DSLR so I shall not go into in-depth comparison. I think the Xperia arc works well as a mobile phone camera.
The camera shutter button is small and hard to trigger due to the position on the phone, it takes some time to get used to it. The camera have a variety of settings that you can use, like white balance & exposure control, smile shutter, scene selection mode, “face detection”, the common “touch to focus” option and etc. Not to forget the “touch to capture” option which will focus on the the area touched on the screen and capture it immediately. Overall Sony Ericsson had set the benchmark higher for the camera phones with the Sony Exmor R sensor and the “real” camera functions found in digital cameras.
Photos Taken with Sony Ericsson Xperia arc
I’ve also being going around taking pictures using the Xperia arc, and i love the crisp & vivid colour produced by the camera. Here you will see the photos that I have taken, some i kept them unedited so you can see the original quality of the pictures, some i edited using Adobe Photoshop Express App which is free app in the Android Market.
