Skating Rink at The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands Opened by Figure Skater Michelle Kwan

18 December 2010, Singapore – Today and tomorrow, World Champion Figure Skater Michelle Kwan will showcase her skills at the new skating rink located at the Canal Level (near Rasapura Masters foodcourt) at 2 pm to officiate the opening of this new entertainment feature. Other performances you can expect tomorrow include Singapore’s own ZingO Festival Drum Group, 12-year-old singing sensation Nathania Ong who sang the Singapore National Anthem at the closing ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games and also performances by members of the Singapore Ice Skating Association.

The Sands Theater, which can accommodate 1680 people, will also be streaming her performance live.

The rink will open to the public at 4pm on Sunday 19 December 2010 after Michelle’s final performance.  Skating rink tickets can be purchased from the ticket booth near the skating rink.

Price:

• Adults: S$7 per hour | Children (12 years and under) S$6 per hour
• Skate rental: Adults S$3 for the 1st hour and S$5 per subsequent hour | Children: S$3 for the 1st hour and S$3 per subsequent hour

With a wide variety of performances, including Christmas themed stilt walkers, mime artists, magicians, jugglers and Christmas carolers around the skating rink and the Rasapura Masters foodcourt, visitors can indulge in festive entertainment throughout the weekend.  An added bonus this weekend will be the Sands Theater Open House, which will allow the public to experience the space at no cost where they can enjoy a sneak peak at future shows and also see a simulcast of the skating rink activities. Only for this weekend, a special edition The Lion King beanie will be given out with every two tickets purchased for The Lion King.  Visitors can purchase tickets to upcoming world-class shows including the New Year’s Eve act by The Pointer Sisters, the glamorous Bollywood Zee Cine Awards on 14 January and the legendary rock maestro Elvis Costello on 7 March. The Sands Theater Open House is from 10am to 10pm, 18-19 December.
